Effect on target catch
In comparison to the control, cod catch was reduced by 38.44% in trials using a banana pinger, and by 15.49% in the PAL trials, and was similar to the control in the wPAL trial.
Effect on bycatch species
Use of banana pingers and porpoise alert devices (PALs) had roughly the same rates of bycatch as the control, while wideband PALs did not record any marine mammal bycatch (control = 14 marine mammals).
