The Consortium for Wildlife Bycatch Reduction seeks a Research Associate to assist in adding content to the www.bycatch.org website.
Qualifications:
- An ability to clearly understand scientific publications and summarize their content
- Adept at identifying relevant publications to include in the searchable online database
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Relative fast learner
- Familiarity with using databases or an ability to learn how to use them quickly
- M.S. in a marine or related field, preferred, especially wildlife biology. endangered species research, or fisheries science
About the Consortium
The Consortium for Wildlife Bycatch Reduction is a collaboration between scientists and fishermen to reduce—in particular—bycatch of protected, endangered and threatened (PET) species. Among the projects it supports include field studies that evaluate modified and novel fishing gear] studies examining behavior of PET species in the presence of fishing operations ,and the assessment of policies and programs created to manage bycatch reduction strategies.
Position details
The position we are seeking to fill is virtual with flexible hours based on the Research Associate’s schedule. The starting date is ASAP with an estimated end date of January 31, 2025. The position may be extended depending on available funding, which pays a stipend of $US 25/hour. There may also be a possibility of including sone fieldwork evaluating modified fishing gear in a small-scale gillnet fishery in Argentina. The Associate will carryout all activities under the supervision of the Consortium Director.
